Bob Fleury Wins AKC Lifetime Award

The American Kennel Club (AKC) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 AKC® Lifetime Achievement Awards: Robert Fleury of Stonington, Conn. (Performance), Jean Fournier of Calhoun, Ga. (Conformation), and Patricia Scully of Suffern N.Y. (Companion Events).

The three recipients will receive engraved Revere bowls on Friday, December 16, 2011 at the AKC Delegates luncheon held in conjunction with the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Orlando, Florida. A sterling silver Tiffany and Co. bowl, engraved with the names of all recipients past and present, is on permanent display at AKC headquarters in New York City.

The AKC Lifetime Achievement Awards were created to honor those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the sport of purebred dogs on a national level. The recipients were selected from votes cast by AKC member clubs for nominees in the categories of Conformation, Companion Events and Performance.

Performance: Robert Fleury of North Stonington, Connecticut
Bob has been involved in the Brittany world and a member of the American Brittany Club (ABC) since the early 1970s. Under the Birch Hill banner, he has bred, trained, and competed Brittanys for over 35 years. He has won 35 Field Championships and over 700 placements. His judging assignments include National Championship stakes for Brittanys, German Shorthairs, Vizslas and Weimaraners, as well as many pointer and setter championships.

For nine years, Bob served as an ABC East Coast Director. Presently, he is chairman of the ABC Magazine Committee, a position he previously held for 12 years. He served on the Board of  Flaherty Field Trial Association for 30 years and was instrumental in creating a fund-raising yearbook program which is now in its 20th year.

Bob served for three years on the Connecticut Governor’s Citizen Advisory Council, representing the state’s bird dog clubs, as well as on the committee for planning and running two of the Purina Top Shooting Dog Awards. He has shared his knowledge by being a reporter for field events and a contributing author in a variety of publications.

Bob has received numerous awards which include the Gaines Sportsmanship; Life Membership in ABC; Brittany Field Trial Hall of Fame; Leadership Award-Association of New England Field Trial Clubs; the Life Patron Award-National Bird Dog Association; and most recently the American Brittany Club’s Hall of Fame for People.

EXETER, RI - Sixty-one pointers, setters, Brittanys and German Shorthaired Pointers have been entered in Arcadia Field Trial Club's annual fall field trial.

The event begins Saturday, Sept. 17, at 7 a.m. and runs through Sunday, Sept. 18, at Arcadia Management Area.

Chairman is Richard Giuliano. Judges include: Jeff Smith, George Doyle, Elias Richardson, Bill Bonnetti, Richard Giuliano, Claudia McNamee, Bill McNamee, Janice Gregory, John Stolgitis and Bill Whigham.

EXETER, RI - Frank Skut of Colchester, Conn., earned 10 awards that showcase both his talent and that of his setters, at the annual meetings of the U.S. Complete Northeast Region and the Northeast Field Trial Association held recently at Arcadia Management Area.

Frank was named 2010-11 Northeast Field Trial Association Amateur Handler of the Year.
